Napoli Pasta Recipe | Healthy Recipe for Children

So we are sharing our Napoli pasta recipe with you so that you can have a go at home!

This recipe serves 4.



  • 400g fresh pasta or dry pasta

  • 1 red onion

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • 2 large carrots

  • 4 celery sticks

  • 400g chopped tomatoes

  • 1 small bunch of fresh basil leaves

  • 1 tsp dry oregano

  • Olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Parmesan to serve



  1. Add a dash of olive oil to a wide-based pan, set to medium heat. Whilst your pan is heating up, peel and finely chop the carrots. Wash and finely chop the celery sticks. Add these into the hot pan and cook for 3-5 minutes.

  2. Once the carrots and celery have begun softening, peel and dice the onion, add it to the pan and sauté for 2 minutes. Crush the garlic cloves, add to the pan and cook this for another minute.

  3. Next, add the chopped tomatoes, roughly chop the basil leaves and add this to the sauce. Season with the oregano and add salt and pepper to taste.

  4. While your sauce is simmering, add your fresh or dry pasta into a well-salted, large saucepan with boiling water. (for our fresh pasta recipe and best cooking tips read our pasta blog here). Cook the pasta to the cooking instructions on the packet. Fresh pasta should take 3-5 minutes, dry pasta will take 9-12 minutes.

  5. For a smooth hidden veggie sauce blitz all the ingredients in your pan together in a  blender/food processor/with a hand-held blender. If your kids don’t mind the veggies then you can also leave it as it is for a chunky, textured sauce.

  6. Before draining your pasta, add a spoonful or two of the starchy water into your sauce and mix it in, this helps give the sauce a velvety texture!

  7. Take your sauce off the heat, add in your cooked pasta and give it a good mix till it is well coated in the Napoli sauce.

  8. Serve between four bowls and top with some parmesan and some extra basil leaves if you wish.

That’s it! Serve it hot and fresh to have the best experience. If you make extra it will keep for 1-2 days in a sealed container in the fridge. We would always recommend enjoying it fresh rather than reheating it. If you do choose to reheat it, do this over a low heat in a pan, do not microwave it as this will dry it out.
